DJ Competition: Art For Progress: Results Announced

Feb. 16, 2007

I entered my first DJ Competition for Art For Progress, an events based non-profit art community that supports multi-discpline artists. The voting was done online for 4 weeks!

The competition was for fashion designers, live music djs, short films, and visual artists. The prize for DJs was a playoff spot in the top three in the event showcase, and then the ultimate winner wins a slot to play at the Winter Music Conference in Miami in March.

Unfortunately, I didnt win, BUT :: I DID GET AN HONORABLE MENTION!! I came in 4th, and I was  the highest placing female. So, who can complain about that for their first competition? The mix I submitted was DiscoTech04.

"DJ Loka gets an honorable mention for her mix because she keeps the energy high throughout with solid track selection, just enough vocals, and plenty of tribal drums".

- DJ Gatto, AFP DJ

I've got alot of stuff in my crate right now but this is what keeps getting repeated play ...Ibadan and Objectivity are really starting to bridge the gap between deep soulful and deep tech, they're not getting nearly enough props or attention for it and I'm LOVING what these guys are doing right now.

Add some stellar vocal treatments from the crew at Shelter and you pretty much can't go wrong. Deep Tech has the promise of moving tech heads and soulful heads into the same dance floor. I'm so excited by this shift in the music, things have been fragmented for too long and this gets me excited to get out and play!
