Happy New Year! I've been getting emails about putting up one of my 70's funk/disco sets....so I laid one down today January 1, 2008. Got my year started off RIGHT. Some of you may be saying...'Loka...what is 'Ron Hardy Style?'....Well, he was a legendary DJ that is NOW known for finding ways other than blending two tracks for the mix....back then, he was just known for being GREAT. There wasn't so much emphasis on the 'blend' then, as there was selection, the RIGHT drop, energy level, story telling and the good old fashioned 'danceyourassoff' factor.

I originally learned to DJ at about age 12-13...and this is how I initially learned to play. But, back then.....we all played this way cuz the lack of a mixer means you needed to depend on other forces to move booties. We hardly THOUGHT about it this much though...and I tried to capture that same spontaniety and oomph that I remember from playing these records in the basement with my friends. I loved it then, I love it now.

These are all tracks you probably know, but so what, they're great. Some of these records are almost 30 years old! Woot!

This set is all old school vinyl, 2 turntables and my Rane.  The podcast is being uploaded now and should be available in a couple hours.

January 2008

My very first attempt at a remix.. of Christian Padauraus' Emotion Comes From Motion has gotten picked up will be released on Christian Records and will be available through Beatport.com exclusively on January 19th 2008!

Things are starting to smooth out in other areas in my life so I'll be able to give the music much more attention come 2008. It's taken me 2 whole years of manipulating and adjusting things so I can pursue this other part of myself the way I'd really like to. I hate being 'part-time' at anything, and I couldn't stand not being able to give this my full attention, but in 2008 all that is about to change! Just shows that no matter how long it takes, you most certainly CAN do EXACTLY what you want with your life. :) Look out 2008, I don't plan on being shy about it .....

I was invited to make a podcast to add to Blaze Imprints Podcast selection over there on iTunes.  After a summer of playing funk and disco, I was ready to jump back into the deep soulful tech vibe that I love so much. I've had no time to update the site physically this summer. I'm sooo sorry. I have been playing a few times per month at the Gallery Bar down on Delancy Street with Art For Progress and I've been having a blast with that. Make sure you're on my list because I am sending out emails for those. The other interesting thing is I've been playing nothing but 70's funk & disco all summer. I'll put a mix/podcast togehter over the weekend to sum up the summer, but it's been funk mixed in quick cuts this summer for me, and I forgot how much this music makes people dance and throw their hands up!

Songs. Great arrangements. Perfect peaks. FIERCE breakdowns. When the music is good, you dont have to do a damn thing but let the RECORD PLAY to make people dance. And that IS, the goal...isn't it? :)
